Congratulations to all of the 4th and 5th grade students from Economy, Highland, and State Street who were semi-finalists in the Martin Luther King Oratorical Competition held in Rochester this Saturday. The students wrote essays on the topic "Who is Dr. King and why do we continue to celebrate his birthday?" The semifinalists were chosen from essays submitted, and they presented these essays in front of an audience and panel of judges.
In the 4th grade division, Lila Gerle, from Highland, earned second place, and in the 5th grade division both winners were from State Street. Julien Hubbard won 1st place, and Kaia Fubio received 2nd place.
The finalists will receive their trophies and monetary awards at the Dr. King Banquet that will be held in January. There, the students will again present their essays in honor of Dr. King's birthday.
Congratulations again to all of the students who entered this competition. They put a lot of hard work into their essays and should be very proud of themselves!
