On Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, ten students from Ambridge Area Middle School attended the Beaver County MathCounts Competition at PennState Beaver sponsored by the Beaver Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. Coached by teachers Ashley Simpson and Glenn Freed, attending students were Joey Bellinger, Andrew Crofoot, Kylie Dreyer, Rudy Erickson, Trevor Grabski, Naomi Husted, Camden Mawhinney, Dalton Prevost, Brayden Reeves, and Alayna Velasco. The event featured over 60 students from 7 schools in Beaver County. Students competed in Sprint, Target, and Team rounds during the morning and then a head to head Countdown round after lunch to determine the top 10 individuals. After the countdown round, Ambridge 7th grader Brayden Reeves placed at 9th overall, and 8th grader Rudy Erickson placed at 2nd overall. Rudy thus earned his way to the state competition in Harrisburg on March 15th and 16th. At the end of the awards ceremony, schools were awaiting the team results, and Ambridge won first place! The team consisted of Rudy Erickson, Brayden Reeves, Camden Mawhinney, and Trevor Grabski. All four students will now compete in Harrisburg as a team and individuals. Congratulations and best of luck to Rudy, Brayden, Camden, and Trevor!
