Four AAHS band students had the honor of being chosen to participate in Beaver County Band on April 10 and 11. Kylee Bobak, Hunter Hogue, Jaina Ilko, and Marjorie Jarsulic rehearsed at New Brighton HS with students from all over Beaver County, concluding the festival with a public concert featuring the ensemble.

Monday, April 8th our Girls Softball took down Central Valley 18-6. Bats blistered as they collected 20 hits and Central Valley tallied 6 in the high-scoring game. Ambridge Varsity got things started in the first inning. Alex Bupp went 5 for 5 and homered on a 2-2 count, scoring 2 runs. Kim Kuzma went 5 for 5 as well and then came up with a homer herself driectly after Bupp. The girls scored 4 runs in the fifth inning. This big win was led by Bupp and Kuzma, who all drove in runs. Ashley DeWeese led the girls to victory in the circle. She surrendered 6 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, striking out 9 girls. Our girls socked 8 homeruns in this game. Bupp had a long ball in the first and fourth inning. Kuzma went deep in the first, fourth, fifth, and seventh inning. Bre Thomas went 3 for 4 and went for the long ball in the sixth. And DeWeese went 2 for 3 and went for a homer as well in the sixth. Collecting up a total of 8 homeruns the entire game. Bupp, Kuzma, Thomas, and Sydney Hopkins all managed multiple hits for these Ambridge girls. Kuzma and Bupp each managed five hits to lead to this victory. Congrats girls! Keep it up!

Ambridge Area High School students earned two of the top three places in a Penn State University Science Challenge, held Friday, April 5.

 

The competition was a compilation of six labs, two physics, two chemistry, and two bio labs. The physics dealt with torque and pendulums. The chemistry was creating an activity series through single replacement reactions and a titration lab and the biology dealt with genetics and testing enzymes in extreme conditions.

The second place team won a $1500 scholarship to Penn State Beaver and the third place team won a $1000 scholarship to Penn State Beaver.
