Dear Friends and Family of State Street Elementary,
As we open the 2017-2018 school year, I am excited to start the new school year with you and your children! We have many wonderful plans here at State Street for the upcoming school year, and the State Street staff and I are grateful to be able to share in these experiences with you and your child(ren).
Our staff and I will strive to continue to promote the tradition of success established at State Street Elementary by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff and community partners. We will focus on reading and writing, character education initiatives, 21st Century skills, fostering a safe and nurturing environment for children, using data to drive instruction, consistent implementation of research-based strategies to increase students’ achievement and providing exciting and challenging opportunities for all students.
Our number one concern is and always will be the safety and well-being of each and every one of our students. To alleviate some the congestion at the school during dismissal, we will continue to implement the dismissal procedures as indicated below:
- 3:15 p.m. - Walkers are dismissed from the cafeteria. All kindergarten students who are walkers must be accompanied by an adult or older sibling. Unless a note is sent in to the front office specifying otherwise, walkers in grades 1-6 will be released at 3:15.
- After the walkers have been dismissed, all buses will be dismissed in the order in which they arrive to school.
- Any parent who is picking their child up as a car-rider should come behind the buses in the bus circle. If you happen to arrive in between buses, please continue around the bus circle and go behind the buses.
- Students who are car-riders will then be released from the front of the building as their ride arrives.
During the course of the school year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students of State Street Elementary the foundational skills necessary to become world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century.
As your child’s principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call, email, or schedule an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this an academically stimulating and fulfilling school year for your child. On behalf of the entire State Street Elementary team, welcome back to the 2017-2018 school year!
Yours in Education,
Thomas J. McKelvey, Principal
