Steve Bezuk, Ph.D.
1972 Graduate
Dr. Bezuk is an internationally recognized expert in the field of semiconductors and semiconductor assembly, the “chips” that make computers, cell phones, tablets, and many other high-tech items work. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota. He worked in the electronics industry for over 37 years. He most recently was Senior Director of Integrated Circuit Package Engineering at Qualcomm, the largest supplier of semiconductor devices for the mobile market. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Steve worked at Kyocera, Unisys, Sperry-Univac and RCA’s Sarnoff Research Center.
One measure of Dr. Bezuk’s achievements and contributions to the semiconductor field is the degree to which they have been adopted throughout his industry. Many processes developed by Dr. Bezuk are currently in use by companies world-wide. In recognition of the quality and innovation of his work, Dr. Bezuk possesses 20 patents, including US and international patents.
Dr. Bezuk received two lifetime achievement awards from international technical societies. He received the Electronics Manufacturing Technology Award in 2015 from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers’ (IEEE) Electronics Packaging Society (EPS) “for pioneering development, manufacturing, and implementation work in mobile device packaging in the areas of interconnect technology, package structures, and package and substrate materials development and reliability.”
Dr. Bezuk also received the Daniel C. Hughes Jr. Memorial Award from the International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS) in 2021. This award is the highest, most prestigious annual technical honor granted by this organization, and is awarded to the individual who has made the greatest technical achievements related to microelectronics. This recognition included Dr. Bezuk being named a Fellow of the Society.
Dr. Bezuk provided important service to professional organizations in his field. Dr. Bezuk was a regular speaker at domestic and international conferences, giving keynote and invited talks and also organized symposia. He served on the Board of Directors for IEEE’s Electronics Components and Technology Conference (ECTC) for many years and was the General Chair for the 2004 ECTC conference. He was a member of the IEEE EPS Board of Governors for three terms and Vice President of Technology for the IEEE EPS.
In addition, Dr. Bezuk has been a strong and active supporter of education throughout his career, working with high schools, universities and consortia. He coordinated a joint Kyocera/Georgia Tech research program. He also coordinated programs with the University of Minnesota, University of California at San Diego, and the Industry Fellows Program with the San Diego School District. He was the chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the San Diego State University Mechanical Engineering Department and a member of the K-12 Science Standards Committee for Poway (CA) Unified School District. He was also Vice President of Activities for the Poway (CA) High School Music Boosters.
Steve and his wife Nadine live in Florida. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their family.
