What is the Bridger Virtual Learning Academy?
The Bridger Virtual Learning Academy (BVLA) launched in the fall of 2020 This unique instructional path is used with our standard in-person instruction and our remote learning options. The BVLA will use a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning with the current AASD teaching faculty.
What is the difference between remote learning in the BVLA and enrolling my child in the Ambridge Area School District Cyber Academy? The Bridger Virtual Learning Academy will offer more opportunity for face-to-face synchronous learning with AASD teachers. The AASD Cyber Academy is asynchronous self-paced learning, with little teacher interaction.
In the BVLA, students follow a traditional schedule for real-time interaction, facilitated through Microsoft Teams, with all students inside or outside of the classroom. The teachers will use a combination of the following core applications:
Microsoft Office 365
Microsoft Office 365 allows students to use Microsoft Office applications in the cloud. Apps include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Sway, Outlook, OneDrive and Teams. Students can use Office 365 apps anywhere they have a connection to the Internet. Students can create powerful documents and presentations using the apps included. Critical Thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication skills are enhanced and strengthened using with the Office 365 suite.
Schoology
Schoology is a learning management system that allows students in grades 3-12 to access online curriculum and materials posted by their teacher. Teachers share links to videos, handouts, and other online resources to their students. Students can submit assignments online and receive feedback on the work they submitted. Quizzes and tests can be administered and graded right inside the application. Schoology has an easy-to-use intuitive dashboard that students can manage easily.
Microsoft Teams
Students will be engaged by AASD teachers with virtual face-to-face instruction through Microsoft Teams. Staff and students can chat, meet, call, and collaborate all in one place. Whether students are in school or at home they will have the same delivery of interactive lessons from their teachers. Synchronous instruction will occur in real time. Students will have an opportunity learn new concepts, work independently or in groups, and receive feedback from teachers all in one application.
Seesaw
Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and students to record and share what’s happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives students a place to document their learning, be creative and learn how to use technology. Each student gets their own journal and will add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or notes. It allows for family members to use the Seesaw app to keep up to date with their child’s learning, and easily communicate between school and home.
Student Devices
Students issued devices are a combination of the devices the students used onsite during the 2019-2020 school year and newly purchased devices since then. The iPad and laptop models are listed below:
