On Friday and Saturday, February 5th and 6th, fourteen students from Ambridge Area Middle School participated in the Beaver County MathCounts Competition held online through the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) website. The Beaver County chapter is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. Coached by teachers Glenn Freed and Ashley Simpson, competing students were: Thayne Barton, Bailey Braund, Owen Buchanan, Chase Fetterman, Aidyn Iorfido, Cole Lovett, Lauren Mealie, Sheridan Olenic, Madelyn Palmer, Max Redinger, Cody Roper, Aashna Sinha Roy, Anthony Speicher, and Brionna Tyson.
The competition featured 38 students from 6 schools in Beaver County. Students competed in Sprint and Target rounds independently from home, due to the format of the test changing because of the pandemic. The top 20% from the chapter were ranked and the final results had Ambridge students holding 6 of the 9 spots to pass to the next level. Brionna Tyson ranked 8th overall, Aashna Sinha Roy ranked 6th, Aidyn Iorfido ranked 5th, Chase Fetterman ranked 4th, Anthony Speicher ranked 2nd, and Cody Roper ranked 1st.
Congratulations and best of luck to Chase, Aidyn, Cody, Aashna, Anthony, and Brionna in the Chapter Invitational Competition on Thursday, February 25th. At that round, the top 5 scoring Mathletes will compete at the State Competition on March 25th.
