On Saturday, February 1st 2020, ten students from Ambridge Area Middle School attended the Beaver County MathCounts Competition at PennState Beaver sponsored by the Beaver Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. Coached by teachers Ashley Simpson and Glenn Freed, attending students were Camden Mawhinney, Brayden Reeves, Aidyn Iorfido, Kylie Dreyer, Chloe Castro, Carter Catalano, Andrew Crofoot, Joseph Pugh, Cody Roper, and Anthony Speicher. The event featured over 50 students from 6 schools in Beaver County. Students competed in Sprint, Target, and Team rounds during the morning and then a head to head Countdown round after lunch to determine the top 10 individuals. After the countdown round, the top 10 students were ranked and the Bridgers earned 5 of those spots. Ambridge 8th grader Brayden Reeves placed at 10th overall, 7th grader Anthony Speicher placed at 9th overall, 8th grader Chloe Castro placed 8th, 7th grader Cody Roper placed 3rd, and 8th grader Camden Mawhinney earned 1st place. Thus Cody and Camden both earned their way to the state competition in Harrisburg on March 13th and 14th. At the end of the awards ceremony, Ambridge found out that the team placed 2nd overall. The team consisted of Brayden Reeves, Camden Mawhinney, Aidyn Iordido, and Kylie Dreyer. Congratulations and best of luck to Camden and Cody in Harrisburg!
