Mr. David Woten, Jr.
1987 graduate
Just out of high school, Mr. Woten enlisted in the United States Army Reserves, where he served eight years as a heavy-wheeled mechanic and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal. He received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Slippery Rock University in 1991 and a Master of Music in Music Education in 1997. He has traveled throughout the state and country as a musician, conductor, and guest speaker. Mr. Woten teaches at Carson Middle School in the North Allegheny School District and is an Adjunct Professor at the Duquesne University Mary Pappert School of Music. In 2008 Mr. Woten was selected as the “2008 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year” and “Slippery Rock University Young Alumni Award Winner”. In 2006 he was recognized by “Who’s Who Among American Teachers”. In May, 2009, he was inducted into the Beaver Valley Musicians Hall of Fame. During his years at Ambridge Area School District, it was under the direction of Mr. Lee Tolfa and Mr. Sal Aloe that his commitment to music was fostered. Mr. Woten brings such dedication to the role of music educator that the elective program at North Allegheny has grown from fifty students to more than two hundred and fifty under his direction. Mr. Woten lives in Economy Borough with his wife and two sons.
